Centre for Baltic and East European Studies (CBEES)

The Baltic Sea Region and Eastern Europe are characterized by diversity and, throughout history until the present day, have been a meeting place for many peoples, languages, political systems and religions. The area provides a rich source of information for studies into social, political, cultural, economic and ecological changes.

The Centre for Baltic and East European Studies, CBEES, was founded in 2005 to coordinate research and doctoral studies focusing on the Baltic Sea Region and Eastern Europe, at Södertörn University (Södertörns högskola).

The aim of CBEES is to extend the Baltic Sea Region and East European profile of Södertörn University at the same time as fostering a multidisciplinary approach.

CBEES Research Advisory Board was established in spring 2008. Its role is to advise CBEES on scholarly and academic matters. Its duties include formulating the Centre's vision and strategic goals, evaluating its activities and developing its connections to both the regional and international research community.

Activities are financed, to a large extent, by the Foundation for Baltic and East European Studies (Östersjöstiftelsen). Other external sources provide further funding.

The Baltic and East European Graduate School (BEEGS) is part of CBEES.

English is the language of communication at CBEES, and therefore, the majority of the information on our web pages is written in English.
